Trip Overview

The 16-day Upper Mustang Trek begins with your arrival in Kathmandu, where our team welcomes you at the airport and transfers you to your hotel. After check-in, you will receive a detailed trek briefing and preparation for the journey ahead. The next day, you travel by road from Kathmandu to Pokhara, enjoying scenic views of rivers, hills, and rural villages along the Prithvi Highway. On the third day, the adventure continues with a long drive through the Kali Gandaki valley via Tatopani and the beautiful apple village of Marpha before reaching Jomsom, the gateway to the Upper Mustang region. From Jomsom the trekking journey begins, following the Kali Gandaki River to the ancient village of Kagbeni, a historic settlement that marks the entrance to the restricted area of Upper Mustang.

Leaving Kagbeni, the trail gradually climbs through dry desert landscapes, colorful cliffs, and Tibetan-style villages as you trek to Chele and then onward to Syangboche. The route continues across high passes and dramatic valleys to the traditional village of Ghami, known for its long mani wall and strong Tibetan cultural influence. From Ghami the trek proceeds to Tsarang, an important historical village with an ancient monastery and fortress. The following day you walk through spectacular desert terrain and unique eroded cliffs before finally reaching Lo Manthang, the walled capital of the former Kingdom of Mustang.

Two nights are spent in Lo Manthang to explore this fascinating cultural center. During your stay you visit ancient monasteries, traditional houses, and the royal palace while learning about the rich Tibetan Buddhist heritage of the region. An additional exploration day allows you to visit nearby villages such as Chhoser, famous for its mysterious sky caves carved into the cliffs. After completing the exploration, the trek begins its return journey with a scenic hike to Drakmar, passing dramatic red cliffs and ancient caves. The following days take you through the peaceful villages of Ghiling and back to Kagbeni, retracing the trail through the unique desert landscapes of Mustang.

From Kagbeni you drive back down the Kali Gandaki valley through Jomsom and Marpha, stopping again in Tatopani before reaching Pokhara, where you can relax after the trek while enjoying beautiful lakeside views. The final day includes a scenic drive from Pokhara back to Kathmandu, marking the end of the unforgettable Upper Mustang adventure.
